Wendy Williams’ guardian settles lawsuit with A&E over controversial documentary

The agreement ends a two-year legal fight over whether the former talk show host could consent to filming “Where Is Wendy Williams?”

Wendy Williams’ guardian Sabrina Morrissey’s settled her legal battle with A&E Television Networks over the controversial Lifetime documentary “Where Is Wendy Williams?”

Morrissey and A&E told the court they had resolved all issues and agreed to drop the case, TMZ reported. TMZ did not report any settlement terms.

The dispute began shortly before the documentary premiered in February 2024. Morrissey initially asked a court to block its release and sought additional damages, arguing that Williams was facing serious medical issues and was effectively incapacitated when the footage was recorded.

The documentary aired despite the attempted injunction. It followed the former talk show host after the end of “The Wendy Williams Show,” showing her health struggles, family tensions and life under a court-appointed guardianship.

In an unsealed complaint, Williams’ guardian alleged that she was not capable of consenting to the documentary and that the production exploited a vulnerable woman. A&E rejected the allegation that Williams should not have been filmed.

The A&E documentary dispute continued as Williams publicly challenged the restrictions of her guardianship. In early 2025, she said she was not incapacitated and questioned continuing the lawsuit. Her guardian then requested another medical evaluation.

Williams also indicated that she did not fully support continuing the case against A&E. A court filing later acknowledged that she had publicly suggested she wanted the litigation to end and said her capacity to make that decision required further review.

The settlement closes the documentary case but does not resolve the separate questions surrounding Williams’ guardianship. TMZ reported that she remains in an assisted living facility while pursuing efforts to end the court arrangement that has governed parts of her personal and financial life since 2022.
