Tiffany Haddish avoids jail time after pleading guilty to 2022 DUI arrest in Georgia

A passerby saw Haddish asleep at the wheel, prompting a 911 call and a legal saga that has gone on for years.

Actress Tiffany Haddish has avoided any additional time behind bars after she pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence in Georgia.

Additional charges were dropped for Haddish, who starred in films like “Girls Trip” and “Night School.” After entering her guilty plea via video, she was ordered to 12 months’ probation and was told by a judge to avoid drugs and alcohol and also to complete a substance abuse evaluation. She received credit for time served following her arrest. She’ll also have to commit to 40 hours of community service and submit to drug testing, according to TMZ.

The remaining charges tied to the case were dismissed.

Back in 2022, a 911 caller reported a driver asleep behind the wheel near an intersection. According to the police report, after Peachtree City police officers responded to the call, they found Haddish parked in a residential yard in a white Ford Explorer, showing signs of impairment “despite other drivers blowing horns at the vehicle.” According to a police report, officers “observed the odor of marijuana coming from the Defendant’s jacket and the smell of alcohol coming from the Defendant’s breath” while performing a field sobriety test.

The actress was also arrested on a DUI charge in California in 2023, which she eventually settled in 2024 by pleading no contest to a vehicle code violation. Still, the Georgia case had been delayed for years following a series of continuances, leaves of absence and other delays.

Haddish’s lawyers attempted to have the case dismissed in May, stating that the multi-year delay violated her constitutional right to a speedy trial. Fayette County State Court Judge Jason Thompson denied the motion, clearing the way for the case to proceed before Haddish and her team struck a plea deal.
