Ryan Coogler has etched his name into BAFTA history books.

The filmmaker’s vampire thriller ‘Sinners,’ led by Michael B. Jordan, emerged as the most decorated film by a Black director in the awards body’s history at the 2026 ceremony in London.

Held at the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre, the British film honors saw the Warner Bros. blockbuster collect three major wins, surpassing the previous benchmark set by Steve McQueen’s ’12 Years A Slave,’ which secured two trophies in 2014.

Wunmi Mosaku triumphed in Supporting Actress for her role as Annie, while Coogler earned Original Screenplay for his genre bending script.

Composer Ludwig Göransson also claimed Original Score, adding to the film’s haul from a field of 13 nominations.

Speaking, while accepting the award, Coogler shared:

“I come from a community that loves me. They made me believe that I could do this, that I could be a writer. For all the writers out there, when you look at that blank page, think of who you love. Let that love motivate you.”
