Three Brand Racing’s first starter, Club Reign, won his debut as the couple and their children celebrated from the winner’s circle.

Russell Wilson and Ciara scored an immediate win in horse racing after Club Reign, the first starter for their new Three Brand Racing venture, won his debut at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday.

Club Reign won the $115,000 maiden special weight by six lengths on Travers Day, according to reporting by the Times-Union. The 2-year-old colt was ridden by Edgard Zayas and trained by Whit Beckman, with Three Brand Racing listed among the winning owners alongside Ribble Farms and Walmac Farm.

Wilson celebrated the victory with Ciara and their children in the winner’s circle, calling the day “a blessing.” He said the family had believed Club Reign was a special athlete before the horse’s first race.

Russell Wilson’s horse racing venture grew partly from family ties. Wilson said his brother Harry, who lives in Louisville, Kentucky, helped spark his interest in ownership. His 9-year-old daughter Sienna’s love of horseback riding also played a role.

Wilson said they believed horse ownership would be a good family venture regardless of the results. Three Brand Racing also takes its name from his 3BRAND apparel company.

The victory gave Wilson another competitive outlet after ending his 14-season NFL career. The former Seattle Seahawks quarterback retired in June after throwing for 46,966 yards and 353 touchdowns and winning a Super Bowl. He is set to join CBS Sports’ “The NFL Today” pregame show.

Wilson compared the rush of Club Reign’s first win to earning rookie of the year honors. After the race, Zayas also greeted him with a familiar phrase from Wilson’s playing days: “Let’s ride.”

Club Reign could have bigger races ahead. The colt is being considered for the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, with the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile also a possibility.
