Karen Huger is speaking out for the first time since serving time behind bars.

The ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star made a candid appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime talk show Sherri, where she addressed her DUI conviction, six-month jail stint, and the personal reckoning that followed. While speculation swirled during her absence, with some suggesting she was recovering from cosmetic surgery, Huger revealed a far more sobering truth.

According to the Bravolebrity, she was not in a cushy facility but facing a cold cement wall in county jail. The experience, she said, forced her to confront what she now calls her past as a “functional addict.”

“I want to be clear crystal clear no one should drink and drive I was wrong okay absolutely dead wrong I’m so grateful no one was killed no other person was hurt yeah I’m so grateful to be alive I could have died.

The reality of being inside is your liberties are gone it’s a humbling experience but it’s an empowering experience if you don’t fight it if you take it for what it’s supposed to be which is to better you and to continue on my healing of addiction.

You could say I was a functional addict at that time… I knew when to have the pills with the alcohol and my cocktail it was never in front of the cameras you’re not going to catch me melting down but I’m not proud of that.”

She also shared that seeing her children through a glass window during visitation remains one of the most painful moments of her life, adding that she will never drink and drive again.

No matter what they say… I know they love me I know they were praying for me underneath it all.”

I really feel I’m the same Karen Huger just clean okay just clean.

For now, Huger says her priority is protecting her peace and using her platform to speak openly about addiction. Whether that journey continues on Bravo remains to be seen.

The appearance comes ahead of the RHOP season 10 reunion, which premieres February 15 at 9 pm ET on Bravo.
