Amid mounting speculation about the singer’s well-being, Sonja Norwood addressed the chatter head-on via social media. The matriarch confirmed that her son has been battling cardiomyopathy, she revealed:

“It was so scary and serious that every other word that was explained to us was ‘this is life-threatening. They put him on five medications at that hospital, along with an IV to try and increase the flow of blood to his heart. Seven days we were there,” Norwood continued. “Seven days [we watched] him go through much pain, a lot of needles, a lot of testing to determine how serious this was.”

The update follows viral footage of Ray performing in Louisiana, appearing to have blood coming from his eyes, which ignited alarm online and even sparked whispers of a staged stunt.

Shutting down the noise, the ‘One Wish’ singer thanked fans for their prayers and support, he shared on a Facebook:

“I want to thank everybody out here for showing us love, I’m on my way to Atlanta, and then I’m on my way to L.A. But I just want to thank everybody out here. Forget what they’re talking about. Forget what you’re hearing. Thank you for your prayers.”
