The Florida rapper told the critic to let parents decide how to raise their own children after Nixon was criticized for taking her children to drag performances.
Plies pushed back at an X user who criticized Florida Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Angie Nixon over her comments about taking her children to drag shows. The Plies comments came after the rapper, whose political commentary has become a regular part of his public profile, shared a clip featuring Nixon and political commentator Jack Cocchiarella.
According to Complex reports, Plies posted the clip on Oct. 4 while praising Nixon’s campaign. In his caption, the Florida rapper suggested critics were betting that voters would reject a Black woman candidate.
An X user responded by writing that Nixon “brings her children to transgender shows.” Plies replied, “Why y’all hate transgenders so much?” After the user clarified that the objection was to children attending drag queen shows, Plies told the user to have their own children and stop telling other parents what to do with theirs.
The exchange centered on comments Nixon previously made during a Legal AF podcast appearance. Nixon said she had taken her children to drag shows and described them as singing, entertainment, and “wholesome entertainment.” She rejected the idea that the shows she attended with her children were sexualized.
Nixon, a Florida state representative from Jacksonville, won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in August. She is running against Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in Florida’s Nov. 3 general election.
Plies has spent the past several years using social media to weigh in on politics and culture. During the 2024 presidential race, he regularly posted videos and reactions about candidates, media coverage, and what he described as political double standards.
The rapper’s recent comments come as states continue to fight over policies affecting transgender people, including restrictions on gender-affirming care for minors and rules governing transgender athletes’ participation in girls’ and women’s sports.
