Nas is gearing up for more music while calling out the industry to give its pioneers the recognition and compensation they deserve.

The rap veteran took to social media to reflect on the culture after spending the past year working on new material.

In a powerful statement, the Queensbridge native highlighted the contributions of musical trailblazers, including blues legend Robert Johnson, while criticising the industry for allegedly exploiting and overlooking its foundations; he wrote:

“The music game forgets or doesn’t compensate the foundation. Our greats have been stolen from and ripped off of. We can’t keep creating music for the sake of a ‘trend’.”

He urges artists, creators, and executives to unite in protecting music’s legacy, saying:

“We have to remember the purpose and our contribution and how many things we created. Where’s the love for each other at… we gotta take a stand as one. It’s time for a celebration of music.”

The message arrives after Nas released ‘Light-Years,’ his collaborative album with DJ Premier, in December 2025.

Signing off with “BLAK MUSIC 2026,” Nas has sparked speculation about what could come next. Whilst he confirms that he’s “working on music,” he has yet to announce a new album or release date.

“For the past year I’ve been watching so much happen in the culture while working on music. I think about how it started, I think about the Mississippi Delta to New Orleans to New York. I think about Robert Johnson at the crossroads, how he changed music, and
how we can’t even find his grave. Sometimes I look at all artists, creators and executives the same way. The music game forgets or doesn’t compensate the foundation. Our greats have
been stolen from and ripped off of.

We can’t keep creating music for the sake of a “trend”. We have to remember the purpose and our contribution and how many things we created. Where’s the love for each other at… we gotta take a stand
as one. It’s time for a celebration of the music.
No Knowledge of self is certain death!
It’s time to address it.
Love y’all,
Nasir Jones
