Netflix has unleashed the trailer for ‘Ruth & Boaz’, a modern-day retelling of the romance story from the Bible. It stars Serayah and Tyler Lepley in the lead roles.

The film follows Ruth Moably (Serayah), a rising Hip-Hop star, who leaves the Atlanta music scene after a personal tragedy. She aims for a fresh start in Tennessee, where she takes care of her late boyfriend’s mother, Naomi. During her stay, she meets Boaz (Lepley), who surprises her while she’s there.

The ensemble cast includes Phylicia Rashad (Naomi), Jermaine Dupri, and Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds.

This flick is produced by DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry. This marks their first film under their partnership with Netflix, which brings faith-based films to the streamer.

Franklin shares how a sermon series inspired the idea for the film. He says:

“Around this time I had been doing a sermon series and teaching from the Book of Ruth about what it means to be single. When I was going through that as we were trying to figure out what the first movie would be, I was like, ‘Oh, wait a minute: There’s never been a modern version, to my knowledge, of this biblical love story, and there’s never been a modern version of this biblical love story that featured people of color’.”

Additionally, Perry hopes that the audience will enjoy the project. He expresses:

“Ruth & Boaz is a beautiful film about two people falling in love while fighting against outside forces. DeVon and I loved teaming up to tell a well-known story rooted in scripture but told in a universal way to be enjoyed by a wide audience. Our hope is that people everywhere feel as much love for these characters as we do.”

‘Ruth & Boaz’ will premiere on September 26 on Netflix.
