Michelle Williams Reflects on Historic 2026 GRAMMY Nomination: “Reminded Me I’m STILL That Girl”

Michelle Williams is STILL that girl, in case you forgot.

Enjoying the most critically acclaimed run of her Broadway career yet aboard the 10-time TONY-nominated stage adaptation of ‘Death Becomes Her,’ the Destiny’s Child alum recently helped the iconic trio make history when she and the ‘Death’ cast were nominated for Best Musical Theater Album GRAMMY at the 2026 ceremony – a mention that made the ‘Bootylicious‘ hitmakers the FIRST all-female ensemble to be nominated as soloists and a group.

And though Michelle didn’t capture the trophy, history was made nonetheless.

Recently chatting it up aboard Tuesday’s episode of ‘Sherri‘ (March 3), Williams waxed honest about the recognition and suggested it may have even inspired her to book up her long-awaited fifth studio album.

Despite the GRAMMY loss, the 46-year-old songstress revealed to Sherri Shepherd she still looks back on the experience fondly.

“Being there reminded me of where I came from. It reminded me ‘you’re still that girl,'” Williams said. “I felt so positively impacted by my peers and by [the Academy] nominating ‘Death Becomes Her.’ It felt great to be nominated. Do I need to hum again on [a new solo] album?”

She also took a moment to appreciate the historical significance of her nomination.

“Had I won we would’ve made history…we would’ve made ‘herstory,'” she said of the accomplishment which would’ve put Destiny’s Child in GRAMMY record books alongside The Beatles for seeing each member win solo and in the group. “It was still great, however, because it was still a nomination.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Williams joked about the importance of not being a sore loser and displaying sportsmanlike conduct despite the loss.

“Do we have to do the fake smiling though [when someone else wins]?,” she asked jokingly.
