This year’s theme for the Met Gala is ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. The co-chairs gracing the cover of Vogue each share the importance of this year’s theme.

Like Domingo being moved by seeing Black mannequins. He states:

“I am a Black man who loves style, loves tailoring, and it struck me that I had never seen images like that—of myself, saying, I belong in these clothes.”

Or Hamilton on being influenced by Black fashion at a young age and scrapping together what he could to get it. He says:

“I’d go to the little thrift store in town and get the Tommy Hilfiger pieces that I saw in music videos. They gave me confidence to show up and say, ‘This is who I am’.”

Along with bringing that confidence and style to the racetrack. The Formula 1 star expresses:

“I want to turn up to the track in what I want to wear. I’m here now — you can’t get rid of me or change the way I dress.”

Additionally, Pharrell Williams’ sense of unique and eccentric fashion and pushing the envelope. He says:

“I always kind of like to bend the rules a little bit. I’m not looking for attention, but I don’t necessarily want to blend in.”

Last but not least, Rocky gives his take on Black dandies like Louis Armstong, Frank Lucas, his father, Malcolm X, the members of Dipset, and even his sons’ style. The ‘L$D’ rapper states:

“It’s in them already. Look who they moms is. She dress her a** off’.”

Though the rapper labels himself a dandy, he just thinks of it as dressing up and being a part of who he is. He expresses this by saying:

“I’m from Harlem, we showed y’all how to do this.”

We can’t wait to see all of their fly and stylish outfits on the Met Gala stage along with everyone else’s.
