Mase Says There Were “Several Artists” Who Would’ve Done a Better Super Bowl Halftime Show Than Bad Bunny: “Chris Brown Is Way Overdue” to Do It

Apparently, Chris Brown isn’t the only one who believes the Super Bowl Halftime Show “needed” him.

Much like Brown who cryptically shaded the Bad Bunny-headlined spectacle on Sunday night (February 8), many-a-social media user – including celebrities like Boosie Badazz and Mase – argue the R&B bad boy would’ve been the better selection for the coveted slot.

As the debate raged on across TikTok, X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and beyond, Mase (born Mason Betha) took to his ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast alongside fellow rapper Cam’ron to lend a stinging review of Bunny’s star-studded performance.

During Monday’s episode of the ‘It Is What It Is‘ podcast (February 9), Mase and Cam took time to reflect on Bunny’s showing – with the former being particularly critical.

“[Bad Bunny’s show] pales in comparison to all the [headliners] who have gone before. To me, it looks like the NFL is getting worse each year in their performance. That’s coming from me as a performer,” he said after acknowledging the “hardships” the Latino community is currently facing in America. “If I had a budget to do a Super Bowl, you could do a greater show.”

Comparing Bunny’s halftime slot to greats like Michael Jackson and Prince, Mase argued he’s a “person for excellence” and believes the headlining slot should only be given to a performer who “nobody is better than.”

“I can think of several artists that could’ve done a better job [than Bad Bunny],” the 50-year-old rapper-podcaster said. “I would rate [his performance] a 4 out of 10.”

As for who he thinks should’ve filled the slot, Mase reiterated his opinion from 2024.

“Chris Brown is way overdue,” he said confidently.
