Fat Joe is facing pushback after boldly declaring himself Black, and Marc Lamont Hill is making it clear he does not agree.

On the podcast, Fat Joe declared:

“Fat Joe is the blackest n*gga you ever seen in your life.”

Words that Hill did not take a liking to. Not present for the interview, the podcast co-host later addressed the remarks and drew a line between Fat Joe’s deep ties to hip-hop and actually being black, explaining:

“I am not trying to police anybody’s ethnicity. I am not trying to police anybody’s racial identity. But what I will say is Fat Joe seems to be using black here ironically, or he’s using it metaphorically.”

He acknowledged the rapper’s longstanding relationship with the Black community and his contributions to hip-hop, but ultimately stated:

“Fat Joe is not black. I have no issue with Fat Joe’s relationship to the black community. But Fat Joe is not black.”

Hill also rejected the ‘Lean Back‘ hitmaker’s argument that proximity to Black culture gives him a pass to use the N-word, saying the connection alone “isn’t enough.”
