In a recent interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Lizzo opened up about her new musical era, which is all about empowerment, self-love, and break-up anthems.

The chart-topper shared the inspiration behind her comeback single (and title track of her forthcoming album), ‘Love in Real Life,’ and revealed that internet trolls and negative comments no longer affect her.

“The people that are mean on the internet are not even real. I’ve been gaslit by bots.” 

She recalled being in a dark place, scared to be around people. But after performing at a concert and feeling the crowd’s love, she realized that real love and connection can only happen in person.

In this new era, Lizzo says she is fully embracing her authentic self. She credits her creative director, Molly Hawkins, for pushing her to be vulnerable and show her true essence in her music video.

“I wanted to show the world the way that I think.” 

The interview also saw Lizzo talk breakup anthems about her close friend, SZA – and their secret band, the Pu**y Lasers.
