Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is receiving an outpouring of support from an unexpected source. Pamela Hurts, a school administrator, shared a heartfelt video showing handwritten messages from students wishing her son a speedy recovery after his recent blood clot diagnosis.

In a TikTok video shared Monday, October 26, Pamela revealed that her school district had designated the day as “Jalen Hurts Day” in honor of the NFL star. Students and staff wore green, the Eagles’ team color, while students prepared cards offering encouragement to the quarterback and his family. “Okay, I’m gonna try not to cry,” Pamela said as she showed the messages.

According to Yahoo Sports, the cards featured personal notes expressing sympathy, encouragement and hope for Hurts’ recovery. Pamela Hurts said she intended to read every message, visibly moved by the gesture. “Wow, it takes a village, and I’m thankful for my village. I really am,” she said. One student wrote that they were sorry for what the family was experiencing and hoped the letters would help lift their spirits.

Pamela captioned the video, “My school family is better than yours! They are showing so much support for 1!”, a reference to her son’s Eagles jersey number. The gesture highlights how Hurts’ health news has reached beyond the football field, touching the community surrounding his family. Hurts was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, according to a statement from his agent, Nicole Lynn. Pulmonary emboli occur when blood clots block arteries in the lungs and can be life-threatening.

The diagnosis was announced after Hurts played against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on October 11. He had appeared in five games this season before the health issue was disclosed. Lynn said Hurts was clinically stable and had no significant functional limitations. However, he would be unable to participate in contact activities, including football, while receiving treatment with anticoagulant medication, commonly known as blood thinners.

The announcement also confirmed that Hurts would miss the remainder of the NFL season, leaving the Eagles without their starting quarterback for the rest of the campaign. Hurts, who led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl championship during the 2024 season, has become one of the league’s most prominent quarterbacks since joining the team.
