Over two years after D4vd‘s debut EP ‘Petals to Thorns‘ (2023) was first planted on the Billboard 200, the singer-songwriter has seen it soar over a 120 spots on this week’s iteration of the chart thanks to ongoing attention from his potential involvement in the death of a teenage girl.
As reported here, D4vd (born David Anthony Burke) has seen public attention on his work skyrocket after it was announced the decomposed remains of Celeste Rivas – a missing 15-year-old girl – was found in the trunk of his impounded Tesla.
The subject of controversy since, Burke has not issued a public statement on the matter but has canceled a promotional tour to support his music.
Apparently, belief of his connection to Rivas’ death has been promotion enough as the updated Billboard charts reveal streaming and sales of his music have skyrocketed.
David’s 2022 hit ‘Romantic Homicide‘ re-entered refreshed Hot 100 at #38 – almost matching its previous peak of #33.
The tune was one of the week’s most-streamed songs in America due to curious analysts and sleuths reviewing its lyrics for what they believe were clues about his alleged involvement in Rivas’ death.
Due to the heightened attention on ‘Homicide,’ its parent project ‘Petals’ pedaled to #51 on the Billboard 200 album charts after being printed at #184 last week.
And while authorities have confirmed David is not currently a suspect in the investigation into Rivas’ death, that’s not stopped the rumor mill from spinning contrary reports or spinning the singer-songwriter’s hits on streaming platforms.
So much so, industry analysts predict the 20-year-old star’s re-charted hits will only rise on next week’s Billboard 200 and Hot 100.
Until we find out for sure, what are…
