When Sean “Diddy” Combs wasn’t allegedly hosting so-called “freak-offs,” he was chasing Hollywood roles, including the part to play James Brown.

During the ongoing sex trafficking and racketeering trial against the music mogul, it was revealed that Combs once auditioned for the lead role in the 2014 Universal Pictures biopic ‘Get On Up.’ The part ultimately went to the late Chadwick Boseman, whose performance earned critical acclaim.

This information spilled during the cross-examination of a witness identified as “Mia,” a former assistant who has accused Combs of rape and sexual assault. 

The court reviewed text messages exchanged between Mia and Combs, including one from August 2020 in which Mia referenced Boseman’s death and said:

“Thinking of you with Chadwick Boseman.”

She added that Combs had auditioned for the role of James Brown, and noted in her message that she still had a copy of his audition tape, which she offered to send him.

According to Mia, the audition wasn’t just a simple recording, it was a full-blown “production” that took a week to put together.

The trial continues.
