Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy’s son charged after wife Mia Bieniemy is reportedly shot at family home

Elijah Bieniemy faces three felony charges as authorities investigate the Virginia shooting that reportedly left Mia Bieniemy hospitalized in stable condition.

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy’s son has been arrested after a shooting at the family’s Virginia home. The incident reportedly left the coach’s wife, Mia Bieniemy, injured.

As reported by People, authorities have charged Elijah Bieniemy with three felonies as the investigation continues. Elijah Bieniemy, 27, was arrested on Monday in Loudoun County, Virginia. He was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling.

Authorities said Eric Bieniemy’s son is being held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 31. The charges stem from a shooting on July 26 at the Virginia home shared by Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and his wife, Mia Bieniemy. According to ESPN, Mia Bieniemy was shot during the incident and was taken to a hospital. She was reported to be in stable condition on Monday.

Loudoun County officials initially confirmed only that one person suffered serious injuries. They did not publicly identify the victim. The Kansas City Chiefs acknowledged the incident in a statement. “The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” the team said. “Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

The shooting happened as the Chiefs opened training camp in Missouri. Eric Bieniemy, 56, recently returned to Kansas City after coaching stints with UCLA and the Chicago Bears.He previously spent a decade with the Chiefs and helped the franchise win two Super Bowls before leaving in 2023. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recently said Bieniemy’s return was one of the reasons he decided to continue playing, calling the veteran coach an important part of the team’s culture. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
