Six days after rising singer D4vd was charged with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed the official cause of death for the teenager whose story has dominated headlines for months.

According to a press release from the medical examiner, the cause of death for the 14-year-old was determined as homicide by “multiple penetrating injuries caused by object(s).”

“After several months, I am grateful this information can now be released, not only to the public, but also to the grieving family enduring loss,” Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Odey Ukpo said in a press statement.

The revelation comes as the latest chapter in the unfolding story and hits headlines seven months after Rivas’ decomposed partial remains were discovered in the trunk of a Tesla registered to D4vd (born David Anthony Burke).

Burke was arrested in connection to the crime on April 16 and later entered a not guilty plea to charges of first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, and mutilating a body. If convicted, he is facing life in prison or the death penalty.

Just a day ahead of the cause-of-death announcement, Hernandez’s family issued a statement.

“Celeste was a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance,” the family wrote, thanking the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for their hard work. “We love her very much and she always told us that she loved us. We miss her deeply. All we want is justice for Celeste.”
