The former NBA star and actress have agreed to undisclosed settlement terms, though reports differ on whether their divorce has been finalized.
Carmelo and La La Anthony have reached a confidential divorce settlement more than nine years after they first separated. The agreement follows La La’s 2021 divorce filing and years of co-parenting their son Kiyan, whose commitment to Syracuse they celebrated together.
The former NBA player and the actress notified a New York court of their agreement this week, TMZ reported on November 4, citing court records. The terms are confidential, and details of any financial arrangements or division of assets have not been disclosed.
News outlets have described the status of the paperwork differently. TMZ and People reported on November 4 that a divorce judgment still needed a judge’s signature. E! News reported the next day that the couple had been granted a certificate of dissolution on November 4 after signing affidavits. The reporting does not clarify whether a separate divorce judgment has since been signed.
They married in July 2010, separated in 2017 and briefly reconciled in 2018. La La filed for divorce in June 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. Sources described the breakup as amicable at the time.
The former couple share a 19-year-old son, Kiyan, a sophomore guard at Syracuse University, where Carmelo won a national championship in 2003. Both parents appeared with him when he announced his college commitment in November 2024. La La said Kiyan had made the decision himself.
TMZ reported that Kiyan’s adulthood meant ordinary child support was no longer at issue. E! News, however, said the court records still listed a qualified medical child support order as pending.
La La has spoken about the strain that publicity placed on their marriage. During a 2022 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, she said the attention that followed Carmelo’s 2011 move to the New York Knicks made their relationship more difficult.
Carmelo and La La Anthony have not publicly disclosed the settlement terms. The agreement marks a major development more than five years after the divorce filing, but the status of the separate judgment remains unconfirmed.
