Britney Spears has sidestepped jail time in her DUI case after striking a plea deal with prosecutors.

The Pop superstar, who had been facing a misdemeanor charge tied to alcohol and drug use, has now pleaded guilty to a lesser offense in a move that dramatically shifts the trajectory of the case.

Per TMZ, the original DUI charge has been reduced to reckless driving involving alcohol, often referred to as a “wet reckless.”

The plea allows the ‘Toxic’ singer to avoid time behind bars, but not without consequences.

As part of the agreement, the 44-year-old will serve 12 months of probation, with strict conditions attached.

Any violation during that period could see the case escalate, including the possibility of jail time.

Spears is also prohibited from possessing drugs without a valid prescription, a stipulation that could prove significant given recent reports surrounding her travels abroad for medication.

Her attorney, Michael Goldstein, said in a statement:

“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct. She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI. Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received.”

Spears did not attend the hearing in person, with her legal team appearing on her behalf in Ventura County court.

The deal also requires her to complete a DUI education program and pay mandated fines.

The case stems from her March arrest, which came shortly after a stint in rehab. Since then, the chart-topper has reportedly made lifestyle adjustments, including hiring a chauffeur.
