Barack Obama continues to sound off in the wake of Jimmy Kimmel being pulled from the airwaves for remarks made about Charlie Kirk‘s killer.

As reported, the late-night host was slammed by an FCC exec for claiming the right activist’s shooter was of MAGA affiliation during a monologue. Distributor Nexstar echoed the condemnation, and ultimately, ABC benched the show “indefinitely” amidst the drama.

While U.S. resident Donald Trump celebrated the move, others have slammed it – branding the move as a politically-charged attack on “free speech.”

Having initially blasted the Kimmel axing, the former President has followed up with an additional weigh-in.

Taking to X, Obama wrote:

“This commentary offers a clear, powerful statement of why freedom of speech is at the heart of democracy and must be defended, whether the speaker is Charlie Kirk or Jimmy Kimmel, MAGA supporters or MAGA opponents.”

Continuing, he wrote:

“First there’s this piece by David French, who devoted much of his legal career to defending the First Amendment rights of conservative writers and scholars”

He added another piece from American abolitionist Frederick Douglass:

“Second, it’s worth reading this excerpt from Frederick Douglass.”
