Andra Day may be renowned for her single ‘Rise Up,’ but this time she is rising up in court.

The powerhouse has filed a bombshell lawsuit against her former manager, Jeff Evans, and it centers on money.

Day is accusing Evans of stealing over $1.6 million and leaving her financially stranded.

According to reports, Evans and his companies, BassLine Management and Buskin’ LLC, allegedly pocketed funds without her knowledge, money Day says was meant for touring and housing costs.

The drama escalated when the firms sued the Golden Globe winner first, claiming she owed them royalties, prompting Day to fire back with her own legal action the very next day.

In her filing, the 40-year-old star branded Evans “a faithless fiduciary,” who was “caught red-handed.”

Evans’ legal team provided a statement to PEOPLE, stating:

“Ms. Day filed a baseless lawsuit against our clients one day after our clients brought an action against Ms. Day for royalties rightfully due to them. Our clients categorically deny the allegations made against them and look forward to their day in court.”

It seems this showdown is far from over, as their battle will continue in court.
