Hours after the unveiling of the 2026 GRAMMY nominations on Friday (November 7), the music industry and its enthusiasts are still buzzing over the entertainment genre’s biggest night (and biggest honors).

Ahead of toasting the year’s best and brightest on February 1, 2026, the coveted tally of nods expectedly listed the likes of chart-toppers Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar as lead competitors for the ceremony’s top honors.

While jaws dropped to see some of the categories they were mentioned in and omitted from, fan groups of other major hitmakers like Drake, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Ciara, Katy Perry, and Kylie Minogue are steam-pressed their favorites were placed in unexpected categories or totally shut out all together.

Snub: Ciara’s ‘CiCi’ album omitted from all R&B categories while its single ‘Low’ missed the African music categories

Surprise: Leon Thomas not only dominates R&B, but also lands Best New Artist and Album of the Year nods

Snub: Drake only mentioned once: Best Melodic Rap Performance for ‘Somebody Loves Me’ with PartyNextDoor. ‘Some Sexy Songs 4 U’ omitted all together despite rendering hits like ‘Nokia’ and ‘Gimme a Hug.’

Surprise: GloRilla nabs 3 Rap nods – one each for hits ‘TGIF’ and ‘Sticky’ as well as a nomination for her debut album ‘Glorious’

Snubs: The Weeknd, Lorde, Benson Boone, Katy Perry, Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Morgan Wallen, Gwen Stefani, and Shawn Mendes completely omitted

Surprise: Clipse nab 5 nods for ‘Let God Sort ‘Em Out’

Snub: Mariah Carey’s ‘Type Dangerous’ lands zero nods

Surprise: TDE hitmakers Doechii and SZA are the only Black women in Song and Record of the Year categories
