Tupac Shakur‘s landmark murder case is heading to the screen.

Just weeks after the decades-long mystery reached a dramatic legal conclusion, Sky has commissioned a feature documentary chronicling the trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis and its impact on the late Rap icon’s family.

Directed by BAFTA winner and Emmy nominee Marian Mohamed, the as-yet-untitled film will trace the case from the first day of evidence through the verdict and sentencing.

The project boasts unique access to Shakur’s family, including his brother Mopreme Shakur, as well as members of the rapper’s inner circle. It will also feature previously unseen personal footage and photographs from the family archive.

Speaking on the film, Mohamed said:

“I want this film to give a voice to a family who are not just grieving, but who have taken back agency in how the murder of Tupac is viewed. Most importantly, I want this film to make people laugh and cry and argue. I want whoever watches this to emotionally connect with not just the story of how Tupac died but with who he was.”

As reported, Davis was found guilty of first-degree murder on August 31, marking the first conviction in Shakur’s 1996 killing.

The verdict followed a closely watched trial in which prosecutors argued that Davis orchestrated the fatal attack, despite not being accused of firing the shots himself.

Davis has since signalled plans to appeal and is due to be sentenced on October 13.

The documentary is separate from an earlier project developed with Davis’s defence team, with Sky’s film instead centering the Shakur family’s perspective.

Per Sky, the film will premiere on Sky Documentaries and NOW in 2027.
