In the statement, Jason Smith, Vice Chairman, called out Kimmel for his comments implying Kirk’s killer was part of MAGA. He said:
“Mr. Kimmel’s remarks were inappropriate and deeply insensitive at a critical moment for our country. We believe broadcasters have a responsibility to educate and elevate respectful, constructive dialogue in our communities. We appreciate FCC Chairman Carr’s remarks today and this incident highlights the critical need for the FCC to take immediate regulatory action to address control held over local broadcasters by the big national networks.”
It was made clear that Jimmy Kimmel Live! will not return “until we are confident that appropriate steps have been taken to uphold the standards expected of a national broadcast platform.”
The company encouraged Kimmel to issue a direct apology to the family, as well as make a personal donation to both the family and Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA.
In the meantime, Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s timeslot will be replaced with a remembrance special honoring the Turning Point USA founder on Friday, September 19.
This news follows the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which was also seen as a political move to appease the FCC.
With that, what are…
