‘Top of the World’ hitmaker Brandy found herself on top of X (formerly known as Twitter) trending topics list on Sunday night (February 15) after dividing viewers of the NBA All-Star Game on her performance of the U.S. national anthem ahead of the big event’s kick off.

Donning a military uniform, the GRAMMY-winning music icon took to the court and was joined by R&B girl group June’s Diary to deliver a unique a cappella version of the historic tune layered with complex harmonies akin to what fans of Brandy’s have come to know and love from her over the years.

While some argued she landed a slam dunk with her adventurous approach, for some viewers the take hit a sour note – with some even branding the performance “chaotic” and criticizing the diva for making the song “unrecognizable.”
