Montell Jordan has revealed the heart-wrenching news that nearly a year after a radical prostatectomy, his cancer has returned, now detected in his lymph nodes despite initially being in the clear.

During his appearance on TODAY, the ‘This Is How We Do It’ hitmaker shared that he is facing a seven-and-a-half-week regimen of targeted radiation and hormone therapy, after cancer was detected near his prostate, which was removed nearly a year ago. He said:

“I always imagined I would be telling my prostate cancer story from the other side of prostate cancer because I had a radical prostatectomy surgery. My prostate was removed. There were clear margins. Close to a year post-prostatectomy, I still need to go back and have additional treatments because it’s [been] detected that there is still cancer.”

In true warrior fashion, Jordan insists:

“It’s OK to cry”

Now serving as a Global Ambassador for ZERO Prostate Cancer, and starring in a forthcoming documentary, he’s turning his pain into a battle cry for early detection and hope, saying:

“Early detection is the thing that allows me to have a choice to treat [my cancer] and live and to continue giving myself the best quality of life possible.”
