Mariah Carey has scored a major legal victory in her long-running courtroom clash with her brother, Morgan Carey.

Five years after the siblings became embroiled in a bitter dispute over allegations made in the superstar’s bestselling memoir, ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey,’ a judge has handed the diva a decisive win.

On October 19, New York Supreme Court Justice Leslie A. Stroth dismissed Morgan’s remaining defamation claims against his famous sister, bringing the lengthy case to a close at the trial court level.

As reported, Morgan initially sued Mimi in 2021, arguing that her memoir falsely portrayed him as violent and damaged his reputation.

While most allegations were dismissed in 2022, two contentious passages survived. They concerned claims that Morgan distributed cocaine to nightclub patrons and had spent time in prison.

However, the latest ruling determined that Morgan failed to sufficiently establish “actual malice,” the legal standard requiring proof that Mariah knowingly made false statements or acted with reckless disregard for their truth.

According to Billboard, Judge Stroth wrote:

“Plaintiff fails to provide any proof that Defendant made such statements with knowledge of their falsity or with reckless disregard for the truth.”

Mariah’s attorney, John Rosenberg, welcomed the ruling, telling Billboard that the star was “gratified” by the decision and its implications for authors addressing matters of public interest.

But the family feud may not be entirely finished.

Morgan’s lawyer, Richard Altman, has confirmed plans to appeal, disputing the judgment and arguing that it conflicts with earlier decisions in the case.

For now, however, the court has ruled in Mimi’s favor.
