Longtime fans of Mariah Carey (affectionately called #Lambs) know she’s made no secret of her admiration of the legendary Gospel quartet The Clark Sisters over the years – particularly group member Karen Clark-Sheard.
Their seemingly long overdue musical collaboration, the song ‘Jesus I Do,’ finally saw the light of day over four years after it was officially announced thanks to its inclusion on Carey’s September 26-released new album ‘Here for It All.‘
Still hot on the promo trail in celebration of the LP’s release, Mariah has been quite vocal about her elation over the Disco-flavored Gospel track coming to fruition after all the years.
Look inside to see what she said.
Amid tackling TV, Web, radio, print, podcasts, and more in her media blitz to support ‘Here,’ Carey dropped by ‘Vogue’ to talk about the album track-by-track.
When quizzed about ‘Jesus,’ the Songbird Supreme didn’t shy away from expressing her love for the inspirational tune.
“…I love that song,” she shared with the magazine. “I’ve been wanting to work with the Clark Sisters forever, so this was a huge opportunity for me. I was so happy when we even listened to the rough version of the song.”
That appreciative sentiment was echoed when she later chatted with the ‘Associated Press‘ (AP) about the song.
“I was so thrilled to be able to work with the Clark Sisters,” she started (as heard in the clip above) before relaying, “It’s just that I never could’ve imagined that I would be able to work with them, but we did. It was major…There were definitely butterflies coming into it.”
As the tune garners major love from #Lambs, a member of the Clark Sisters – Jacky Clark-Chisolm – took to Instagram to send some love back to Carey.
