Malcolm-Jamal Warner Drowning: No Lifeguard on Duty

New details are emerging after the untimely death of Malcolm-Jamal Warner. For, now, it is being reported that there was no lifeguard on duty at the time of his tragic drowning.

Full story below…

According to TMZ, the Caribbean Guard, Costa Rica’s volunteer lifeguard group, made a post on Facebook explaining that there wasn’t a lifeguard on duty when Warner was swept away by a strong current at Playa Grande beach Sunday (July 20).

The Caribbean Guard unpacked that they have patrolled that area in recent years. However, at the time of the actor’s death, they were not there due to lack of resources.  They added that there have been spikes in incidents at beaches Playa Negra and Chiquita, and that they allocated resources to them at the time. They say:

“Due to the recent water incidents at Playa Negra, we have allocated resources there and to Chiquita, another emblematic beach, due to its currents.”

The post also relays that the Playa Grande beach is a notoriously challenging beach, and it has signs in English and Spanish warning about drowning risks.

‘The Cosby Show’ star was pulled under a strong rip current within seconds and drowned. He was recovered from the water with no vitals, and CPR was administered. Resuscitation efforts failed.

Two others were swept away by the current, yet made it out before the paramedics arrived. Another man who was treated alongside ‘The Resident’ actor is still in critical condition.

However, the group explained that without government assistance, these drownings will continue to happen. They shared:

“We’re doing everything in our power. We’ve saved countless lives in recent years, and if Caribbean Guard didn’t exist, drownings would be in the dozens. We’re doing everything we can to minimize the risks, but without government assistance, clear public policies, and strong support from local businesses, this will continue to happen.”

As reported, Malcolm-Jamal Warner passed away on July 20 at the age of 54.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.
