After years of anticipation, Madonna has finally revealed why her highly-publicized biopic never made it to the big screen, and it all comes down to a major clash behind the scenes.

Speaking candidly to Interview Magazine, the Queen of Pop shared that creative differences with Universal Pictures ultimately derailed the project after two years of script development, budgeting and casting.

According to the icon:

“I was supposed to make a movie about my life. I worked on my script for two years and spent two years at Universal Studios with the line producers doing budgeting and casting,”  Madonna shared. “We had a falling out, me and Universal, regarding budget because I needed — I’ve had an extraordinary life. I’ve had a huge life, so I needed a big budget. You know what I mean?”

The film, which had tapped Julia Garner to portray Madonna following an intense audition process, was expected to chronicle her journey from Michigan beginnings to global superstardom, leading up to the release of her landmark album ‘Ray of Light.’ 

Though the movie stalled, Madonna says the story isn’t over. She revealed that “Netflix reached out to make a series.” 

As well as the upcoming series, Madonna is gearing up to drop her album ‘Confessions On A Dancefloor: Part II,’ arriving July 3.
