Fans have a new reason to celebrate as ‘Sistas’ star KJ Smith and ‘All the Queen’s Men’ actor Skyh Black have welcomed their first child together.

The couple’s daughter, named Pryde JaNea Black, arrived Saturday, October 4, weighing 5lbs., 11 oz. The proud parents shared their joy exclusively with PEOPLE, with Smith calling Pryde “so precious” and Black admitting he’s “definitely wrapped around her finger.” 

While the couple had planned a home birth surrounded by family, a challenging 48-hour labor prompted an emergency C-section, Smith recalls:

“I just imagined having my baby girl in the pool of water and anyone could ask you, I had it all set up, I was in so much pain. I was in so much agony. And like I said, things had not gone [as planned], and it’s just a mother’s intuition. I was like, ‘Something’s not right with my baby,’ and I just knew that. And so I was like, ‘Someone give me my phone!’ And knew who to call.” 

That person was boss and friend, Tyler Perry, who ensured both mother and baby were safe.

Despite the unexpected turn, Smith and Black are overjoyed and soaking in every moment with their little girl. Black says:

“You can’t even put it into words. It’s inexplicable, it’s like I have to make sure that greatness — what [KJ] and I define as greatness between us — is personified, so that she can see and [we’re] not just [telling] her.”

Baby Pryde’s arrival marks a beautiful chapter for the couple, who tied the knot in September 2023, and fans can’t wait to follow their journey as new parents.
