Officially unveiled this week, the ‘Great American State Fair’ is being billed as a massive patriotic blowout set to stretch across Washington D.C.’s National Mall from June 25 through July 10. Carnival rides, live performances, food activations, and state-themed attractions are all part of the ambitious rollout.
Still, within hours of the lineup landing online, controversy came knocking.
Alongside Flo and Milli Vanilli, the nostalgia-heavy bill boasts names such as Vanilla Ice, Bret Michaels, and The Commodores. Yet while some acts are embracing the spotlight, others are heading for the nearest exit.
Morris Day & The Time swiftly distanced themselves from the event after initially appearing on promotional material tied to the celebration.
“Contrary to rumour, Morris Day & The Time will not be performing at the ‘Great American State Fair’.”
The legendary Funk frontman later drove the point home with a social media caption that instantly began making rounds online:
“It’s A No For Me
.”
Young MC followed suit, confirming he too had exited the event while alleging artists were not informed about any political ties connected to the production.
“The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event.”
Even though organizers continue to insist the fair is non-partisan, social media discourse surrounding the Trump-linked spectacle has only intensified as the launch date edges closer.
