The DC Universe has a new leading man, and Aaron Pierre is embracing the responsibility that comes with it.

The British actor takes center stage as John Stewart in HBO’s ‘Lanterns,’ and That Grape Juice caught up with the star for an exclusive chat about stepping into the shoes of the beloved Green Lantern, finding the humanity beneath the superhero spectacle, and entering yet another storied franchise.

Speaking with TGJ’s Samuel Eni, Pierre unpacked the many layers of John, including the contrast between his discipline as a former Marine and the creative instincts that define him as an artist and architect.

He also opened up about building the character’s push-pull dynamic with Kyle Chandler, who plays veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, and the collaborative chemistry that helps anchor the show’s more grounded approach.

As ‘Lanterns’ first trailer previewed, the series positions the pair as intergalactic cops drawn into a dark Earth-based mystery, with the story unfolding across different timelines. An extended look later offered an even closer glimpse at the scale of the DC Studios production.

For Pierre, the role also arrives after lending his voice to another character steeped in legacy, ‘Mufasa,’ which he previously spoke with TGJ about.
