According to TMZ, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee confirmed that his office and Nashville International Airport plan to pursue the name change.

Lee said:

“Dolly Parton’s extraordinary life is forever woven into the fabric of our state. From her rural mountain home in East Tennessee to global stages, Dolly carried the Volunteer Spirit with her.”

The move comes after a Change.org campaign calling for “Dolly Parton International Airport” exploded in popularity following her passing.

As we reported, the petition had already surged past 117,000 signatures earlier this week. It has since climbed beyond 160,000.

Parton’s passing sparked an extraordinary outpouring, with stars across entertainment paying tribute to her music, philanthropy, and enduring cultural impact.

Now, one of Tennessee’s most famous names looks set to receive a fitting permanent salute in the city she helped put on the global music map.
