The intimate service took place at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, just days after Parton died at age 80 following a brief battle with cancer.
Parton’s great-niece, Lainey Parton, confirmed that the superstar had been laid to rest in an emotional Instagram tribute, writing:
“This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words.”
The ‘Jolene’ legend had also made specific wishes for her burial.
Her nephew Bryan Seaver previously revealed that she wanted to be laid to rest in a bed of plush cotton.
“Dolly was a farmer, just like her daddy. He farmed the soil. She farmed songs and happiness. Dolly called me and said she wants to rest in a beautiful bed of plush cotton.”
Parton also selected the Gospel hymn ‘If We Never Meet Again‘ for her funeral, a song that held special significance as her father’s favorite.
And while the world has said goodbye to one of music’s most enduring icons, she still has one final musical surprise waiting.
An unreleased song titled ‘My Place in History‘ remains sealed inside a chestnut box at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort. The recording is set to be unveiled on January 19, 2046, what would have been Parton’s 100th birthday.
Fans were unable to attend the private funeral, but were encouraged to honor her memory by supporting her beloved Imagination Library.
