‘Cruel, evil, greedy’: Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s mother Pamela reflects on year-long journey after her son’s passing as his widow sues her

Pamela Warner is listed as the successor trustee for her late son’s estate, which was established in 1996, years before Tenisha Warner’s request that her husband file a $1 million life insurance policy naming her as the sole beneficiary.

The pain of losing Malcolm-Jamal Warner has turned into a nasty legal dispute between his mother, Pamela Warner and his widow, Tenisha Warner.

On Tuesday, court documents revealed that Tenisha filed a $1.2 million suit against Pamela, alleging that Malcolm failed to honor several agreements he made with Tenisha before his untimely passing, including finalizing a $1 million life insurance policy naming her as the sole beneficiary and settling other debts. Tenisha argues that such debts should be covered by the trust Malcolm established with Pamela in 1996, stating that his estate “will be inadequate to satisfy” them.

The suit was filed on the first anniversary of his death. Warner was vacationing in Costa Rica when a high current in the ocean swept him up. Although his body was retrieved from the water, he was declared dead via accidental drowning.

On Monday, Pamela Warner, who is the successor trustee of the Warner Family Trust, shared a heartbreaking tribute to her son, acknowledging the difficulties of navigating one year without him while at the same time touching upon how “cruel, evil and greedy” someone can be. She does not mention who that “human” is.

“Today has come so very quickly. It is amazing how a year of pain, hurt, loss, emotional de-stabilizaton, and most importantly growth, has come and sits here before me,” Pamela wrote in the post, a carousel of images of a young Malcolm and her. “It has been a whirlwind of experiences, insights, discoveries and the realization that life can bring to your door-step the unimaginable.”

She added, “I have discovered how cruel, evil and greedy a human can be. I have also discovered the depth of love, care, concern and support that humans are capable of. All of which I have been the recipient of. The good, the bad and the ugly. These are the lessons that apparently I will need as I continue my journey.”

She concluded, “Let them know that they are loved. Clear up any beef you may have with your loved ones, if possible. Cleanse your spirt of negativity. We all have an expiration date. Don’t leave or let your loved one leave without them knowing that they are loved and treasured. That knowledge and ‘clean plate’ has helped me to survive.”

The family drama is set to continue later this week as Tenisha Warner sits down with Gayle King on Thursday for an interview on “CBS Mornings.”
