David Jonsson is officially Wakanda’s newest protector.

Ryan Coogler sent Marvel fans into a frenzy at San Diego Comic-Con by announcing ‘Black Panther 3’ and revealing Jonsson as the franchise’s new titular hero.

The British actor will play the adult son of T’Challa and Nakia, carrying forward the royal legacy established by the late Chadwick Boseman.

David Jonsson Inherits the Black Panther Mantle

Joined onstage, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, Coogler explained that the young prince introduced at the end of ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ will now come of age.

He shared:

“The last time we got to make a movie, we introduced a character who is the son of the character that the great Chadwick Boseman played, our T’Challa. And today, I want to tell you that in this next film, he grows up and he comes of age.”

Jonsson emerged to a standing ovation before thanking Coogler, Marvel boss Kevin Feige, and his new cinematic family.

“I actually don’t want to say too much because I want to let the screen do the talking. But believe me, the honor is entirely mine.”

Who Is David Jonsson?

The East London talent first commanded attention as Gus Sackey in ‘Industry’ before earning acclaim for ‘Rye Lane,’ ‘Alien: Romulus,’ and ‘The Long Walk.’ His ascent also saw him win the publicly voted BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2025. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

Jonsson recently led the hard-hitting prison drama ‘Wasteman’, further showcasing the range that has powered his rapid Hollywood rise.
