Gospel music lovers apparently couldn’t wait to get their hands on the long-awaited collaboration between Mariah Carey and the legendary Clark Sisters.
Titled ‘Jesus I Do,’ the Daniel Moore II-produced tune – found aboard Carey’s latest critically acclaimed album ‘Here for It All‘ – was first teased in 2021 after confirmation of its creation came courtesy of group member Dorinda Clark-Cole.
With the LP’s inaugural sales tracking week in its rearview, Mariah fans (affectionately called #Lambs) can finally see the impact the project’s songs have had on Billboard charts outside of the Billboard 200.
Look inside to see how ‘Jesus’ charged the Music Bible’s Gospel charts.
The Disco-flavored Gospel track premiered at #5 on Billboard’s updated Hot Gospel Songs chart, coming as the week’s highest debut among women.
When all acts are considered, only Kirk Franklin‘s latest release ‘Able‘ premiered higher (#4).
A milestone for the legendary Sisters (whose collective career spans six decades), ‘Jesus I Do’ comes as their highest-charting hit on this tally since ‘Livin‘ – the second single from their 2007 reunion album ‘Live…One Last Time‘ – peaked at #2 that year.
The Clarks have collected two other top 10 hits on the Hot Gospel Songs chart since the tally’s inception in 2005 – ‘Victory‘ (#6 peak) and ‘Blessed & Highly Favored‘ (#1).
For Mariah, ‘Jesus I Do‘ comes as her inaugural print on this specific hitlist despite having rendered Gospel-flavored tracks in the past like ‘My Saving Grace’ and ‘Fly Like a Bird.’
