‘Victory‘ hitmaker Diddy may have scored a partial victory with the surprising outcome of his highly publicized sex trafficking and racketeering trial last month, but he’s undoubtedly hoping for total triumph over an accuser/court witness he claims falsely brought sexual assault allegations against him.
Diddy (born Sean Combs) may have over 150 civil lawsuits for allegations of sexual assault and misconduct, but he took aim at one of his male accusers – Courtney Burgess – by hitting back with a $50 million defamation lawsuit in January.
Burgess, author of the memoir of Combs’ ex Kim Porter, previously made headlines for testifying he saw sex tapes featuring the Hip-Hop mogul and multiple minors including unnamed underage girls who were celebrities.
In what comes as an escalation to that legal battle, Combs has now upped that $50 million suit to a whopping $100 million and included the news outlet that helped publicize the man’s claims.
Courtesy of court documents obtained by USA Today, the embattled mogul amended his complaint against Burgess in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Monday (August 11).
Citing “severe reputational harm,” Diddy’s suit alleges Burgess’ “outlandish claims” caused a “media frenzy” against him.
“In this pitiful spectacle, all pretense of objectivity has been abandoned, as a global audience feasts at the all-you-can-eat buffet of wild lies and conspiracy theories…Burgess [is] among the worst perpetrators in this offensive scenario,” the lawsuit outlines before saying, “Defendants made these false and defamatory statements in bad faith, as part of a deliberate effort to damage Mr. Combs’ reputation, undermine his businesses and, by painting him as debauched and a pedophile, to poison the public’s perception of him and deprive him of a fair trial.”
The news comes just a week after Diddy was denied bail after his legal team requested he be released on a $50 million bond.
At writing, he remains in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
