In many ways, the world has moved on from “the slap heard around the world,” but the 2022 incident – which saw Will Smith assault Chris Rock at the year’s Academy Awards over a joke made about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith – still haunts Will.

Beyond the award show penalty and public blowback he suffered as a result, the OSCAR winner recently revealed the history-making moment caused him even more pain and embarrassment behind the scenes.

In a rare reflection on the controversial altercation, a teary-eyed Smith looked back on the attack with remorse and gave fans a detailed view of how he dealt with the aftermath.

While interviewing with the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson recently, Will chatted briefly about the Rock incident.

“That was a horrific night for me,” he said solemnly before being consoled by the hosts.

And while they ultimately supported the reasoning behind the slap, Will revealed it was a conversation with his 9-year-old nephew that really made him regretful about attacking Rock.

“You can’t explain that to him. I can do all the justifications forever, but he’ll never understand it,” the actor-rapper said while wiping tears.

While Rock and Pinkett-Smith have not spoken much about the incident publicly, he did go on record and apologize for the OSCARs joke about her battle with alopecia.

Nearer the time of the slap, Will also issued an apology to Chris.
