New details are emerging about a memorable moment involving the late Whitney Houston, and one person close to the singer is now challenging a version of events that has circulated for years.

Ray Watson, who served as Houston’s personal bodyguard for over a decade, recently revisited the superstar’s infamous 2009 stumble during an appearance on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.’

According to Watson, he told TMZ the fall had nothing to do with substance use, despite previous claims suggesting otherwise.

Instead, he says the incident simple stage mishap, he recalled:

“She was coming toward the front of the stage, and it’s a drop-off, and so like a dark spot there. So when she got to the edge, I think somebody told her, watch, be careful, watch it. And then she went down, but so, you know, we got to her, but she, she got up.”

Far from being shaken, he says the legendary vocalist “made fun about it” and laughed the moment off.

The comments arrived amid renewed conversation after Oprah Winfrey previously implied Houston was under the influence during the appearance, a narrative that has been reported to have frustrated members of the singer’s estate.
