Joe finally stepped behind the Tiny Desk. Specifically, the R&B veteran blazed through his catalogue of ’90s and early 2000s hits for NPR’s Black Music Month celebration.

Before the music started, Joe explained his absence from the spotlight.

“Where have I been for the past few years? Well, I’ve been on the road touring. I’m here with you all today, and I wanna do a few songs throughout the catalogue.”

He then delivered a setlist packed with gold and platinum-selling smashes:

‘Good Girls’
‘Faded Pictures’
“More & More’
‘The Love Scene’
‘All the Things (Your Man Won’t Do)’
‘I Wanna Know”

Joe closed the performance with a tender moment. He invited his daughter, Kayla Thomas, to sing background vocals on his biggest hit, ‘I Wanna Know.’

The band included DJ Brown on keys and music direction, Cam Moore on guitar, and Will “Bam Bam” Parker on drums.

Fans had long petitioned for Joe to appear at the Tiny Desk. Consequently, his performance proved the wait was worthwhile. He gathered the entire audience in one hand, blazing through each track with the same vocal power that made him a staple of R&B radio.

The Tiny Desk concert is part of NPR’s celebration of BET’s legacy during Black Music Month.
