Ray J has suffered a legal setback in his ongoing battle with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has rejected the ‘One Wish’ singer’s bid to have the mother-daughter duo’s defamation and false light lawsuit dismissed, meaning the case can move forward.

Kardashian and Jenner sued the singer after he allegedly made false claims suggesting they were connected to a federal racketeering investigation and that their purported conduct could be worse than that of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.

Ray J argued that his comments were opinion and that some were made while he mistakenly believed a livestream had ended. However, the judge determined that a reasonable person could interpret his remarks as statements of fact.

The case is currently scheduled to go to trial in May 2028. However, the 45-year-old’s attorney tells TMZ that they intend to appeal the ruling:

“We will promptly appeal the ruling which failed to recognize Ray J’s First Amendment right to publish his opinion about the despicable behavior of Kim Kardashian. The appeal freezes the proceedings so it is unlikely there will be a trial in 2028 or ever.”
