As Beyonce once famously sang in her ‘Lemonade‘ hit ‘Formation‘: “You know you that b–ch when you cause all this conversation.”
Amid ongoing chatter around Sydney Sweeney‘s controversial American Eagle ad, some conservative critics – like President Donald Trump and Megyn Kelly – have pointed to Bey’s brand partnership with Levi’s as proof of some kind of cultural double standard.
Inciting staunch and swift defense from the diva’s beloved supporters (affectionately called the #Beyhive), the fan group had polarizing broadcast journalist Piers Morgan on their antennas on Wednesday (August 6) after he took to social media to throw his two cents into the discourse.
Look inside to see what he said that rubbed them the wrong way.
Seemingly siding with Sweeney supporters, Morgan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to slam Bey’s latest commercial with the denim makers.
“Very disappointed to see Beyonce culturally appropriate Marilyn Monroe in her new Levi’s ad,” he told his 8.9 million followers on the platform.
It didn’t take long for the tweet to rack up nearly 650,000 views and almost 2,000 comments – many of them from angry #Beyhive members taking the British journalist to task for his statement.
“Marilyn Monroe is not a culture,” wrote one user while another said, “You just like to hate (crush) on Black women; we know that and it’s ok.”
As his name ascended to trending status, Piers responded to one of the commenters by confirming his original statement was satire.
“I would say I can’t believe anyone took my obvious Beyonce joke post seriously, but I forgot the woke brigade have no sense of humor,” he relayed to a poster who branded his original tweet “idiotic.”
This isn’t the first time Piers landed on the wrong side of the Beyhive.
In October he took to airwaves to issue an apology to Bey and her husband JAY-Z after hosting a guest who dropped bombshell allegations of abuse against the music mogul-rapper on his talk show.
