President Donald Trump reportedly approved the execution.

The execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan is set to be livestreamed.

According to PBS, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the execution would be “public” while speaking to the conservative TV outlet Real America’s Voice News. Hegseth confirmed the execution is scheduled to take place later this year at Fort Hood. Additionally, officials in the Pentagon shared that details on the livestream are to come, with Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirming that President Donald Trump approved the execution.

“We’ll make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public,” Hegseth said. He also answered, “Don’t care. We’ll see him on December 3rd,” when asked if Hasan had made any final requests to President Trump’s administration.

On Monday (Oct. 5), the Pentagon first announced that Hasan will be executed by firing squad, marking the first U.S. military execution in more than 60 years. As reported by ABC, Hasan was convicted of 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted murder and sentenced to death in 2013 after opening fire at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center at the Fort Hood military base.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Army initiated planning to carry out the executions of the military’s four death-row inmates if ordered to do so by the president, in “Operation Resolute Justice.” The plan was issued internally in February and directs multiple Army components to prepare for and facilitate executions “no later than 150 days from the date of presidential approval.

The announcement of the live execution of Hasan comes as the failed execution attempt of Christa Pike continues to make headlines. Pike, who was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, survived a lethal injection last month. According to ABC News, she survived being administered two lethal doses of pentobarbital and was hospitalized and on a ventilator before regaining consciousness following the botched execution.

“We’re not sure exactly of the long-term effects, but she’s clearly cognitively not quite back to normal and may have a long ways to go,” one of her attorneys, Stephen Ferrell with Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee, explained. “There’s a lot of psychological trauma that she’s going through and still suffering through.”
