The family of Christian Obumseli has spoken out after Courtney Clenney, the OnlyFans model charged with his 2022 stabbing death, reached a plea agreement with Miami-Dade prosecutors.

The deal spares the family a trial that had been just weeks away, closing a case that has run for over four years.

Christian Obumseli’s Family Responds

Larry Handfield, attorney for the Obumseli family, told TMZ that Clenney, prosecutors, and the family reached the resolution together.

He added that a guilty plea and “accepting full responsibility” would begin a process of closure after what he described as a life-changing tragedy.

Speaking separately to Local 10 News, Handfield also noted that his clients took an active role in the plea discussions throughout.

Meanwhile, prosecutors will present the agreement before Judge Andrea Ricker Wolfson in Miami-Dade County court on August 10. However, the terms remain undisclosed, and the court must accept them before they become final.

How the Christian Obumseli Case Unfolded

Police found Obumseli, a 27-year-old cryptocurrency trader, with a stab wound inside the couple’s One Paraiso condominium in Miami’s Edgewater neighbourhood on April 3, 2022. He later died.

Authorities then arrested Clenney, now 30 and known online as Courtney Tailor, four months later at a treatment facility in Hawaii. She has remained in custody since August 2022. Initially, she pleaded not guilty and faced a possible life sentence.

She admitted stabbing Obumseli. However, she maintained throughout that she acted in self-defense, and her team argued that he had abused her. His family has consistently rejected that account, while prosecutors said he was unarmed.

What Happens Next for the Obumseli Family

Both families will attend court on August 10, and sentencing will likely follow immediately after she enters the plea.

For now, it remains unclear whether Clenney will plead to the original second-degree murder charge or to a reduced count. Separately, the Obumseli family settled a wrongful death suit against the building where the couple lived.
