Sam Smith is turning betrayal into a towering new musical statement with ‘Oh Mother’.

Featuring the 28-member The TwoCity Chorus, the stirring release finds the British vocalist reaching for maternal comfort while surrounded by a wall of voices charged with grief, fury, and protection.

The fiery anthem serves as the second official single from Smith’s forthcoming fifth studio album, ‘Hazel Eyes’, which arrives on August 21 via Capitol Records.

The track follows ‘My Guy’, but swaps that song’s romantic glow for something altogether more forceful and confrontational.

Speaking on the track, Smith gushed:

“The choir is meant to represent the fury of a mother witnessing her child’s betrayal. They’re summoning a sort of divine feminine energy.”

Smith co-produced the track alongside David Odlum and Simon Aldred, with composer Gabe Noel tapped to contribute the string arrangement.

The song serves as one of several cuts on ‘Hazel Eyes’ recorded with The TwoCity Chorus.
