LL Cool J has been announced as the host of the MTV Video Music Awards 2025.

Moments ago, MTV announced that the Hip-Hop icon and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee will preside over the ceremony on September 7 live from the UBS Arena in New York City.

It will serve as the MC’s first time hosting the event solo, having co-hosted with Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow in 2022.

LL won his first Moon Person in 1991 for Best Rap and was the first rapper to receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 1997.

Beyond hosting this year’s VMAs, LL’s single ‘Murdergram Deaux’ featuring Eminem is nominated in the Best Hip-Hop category.

There are more VMA announcements to come, with additional performers, presenters, and special guests set to be unveiled in the weeks ahead.

The MTV VMAs 2025 air on September. 7 at 8PM ET/5 PM PT on the CBS Television Network, simulcast on MTV and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.
